Boys' 2017 Coaches

Varsity

Neil Baasten

Neil Baasten is entering his twelfth year as Varsity Head Coach of the Hoover Boys Soccer Program. Last season, the team had a record of 10-7-2. During his tenure as head coach at Hoover, his teams have been the Federal League Champions twice and the recipient of the prestigious Akron Soccer Officials Association Sportsmanship Award twice. Neil was named the 2015 Stark County Division I Coach of the Year. On September 23, 2014, Neil recorded his 250th career victory as a boys’ varsity soccer head coach. His record at Hoover High School is 109-69-22 and his overall record as a varsity soccer head coach is 279-156-56. Neil graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame with a B.B.A. in Accounting. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is the co-managing partner of the law firm of Baasten, McKinley and Co., L.P.A. in Canton. Neil moved to Stark County in 1978 and resides in Canton with Chris, his wife of forty-six (46) years. They have two adult children – Jason and Cynthia.
 

Varsity Assistant

Chad Dickerhoof

Chad Dickerhoof has coached two seasons as varsity assistant at Marlington High School and is now entering his second year as varsity assistant for the Hoover boys’ soccer program. He is a graduate from Marlington High School. Chad went on to play at Walsh Unviersity from 2009-2013 as a left mid fielder. While at Walsh, the team won the AMC playoffs going 10-0 in 2011. Chad graduated from Walsh with his Bachelor’s degree in Science. After graduation he taught one year at Lexington Elementary. Starting last year in 2015 he became the Physical Education teacher at Orchard Hill Intermediate school. On July 2, 2016 he became married to his wife Gabrielle. 

 

JV White

Matt Miller

Matt Miller is in his fifth season as a coach for Hoover High School and will be coaching the JV White team.  Matt is a 2001 graduate of Hoover High School where he competed in the soccer program for four years.  He was a three time varsity letterman and received all-county and all-league honors his junior and senior seasons.  He was part of a defense that set the then record for least goals allowed (10) and was a senior captain in 2000. Matt went on to play club soccer at the University of Dayton for two years.  Matt has previous coaching experience for Canton Akron Soccer Club (CAK) and Metro F.C. (Dayton Ohio).   He attained a Nation “D” coaching license while living in North Carolina in 2009.
Matt graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in Computer Science.  He currently works for Razorfish, a worldwide digital agency, as a Technology Director.  He also volunteers his time serving on the board of CAK.  Matt resides in North Canton with his wife, Erin and four children: Natalie (5 y/o), Hannah (3) and Patrick (2) and Bridget (6 months).
 

JV Orange

Gary Bodenschatz

Gary Bodenschatz is in his eleventh season coaching the Hoover High School boys’ J.V. team. He also teaches Interactive Media at Hoover High School. He spent the previous ten years at Timken Sr. High School where he also coached the varsity soccer team as an assistant.  He graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He later earned his Master of Arts in Education degree. Gary resides in North Canton with his wife and four children.
